Mrs. Caroline Hertel Is Taken by Death, Aged 79
     Mrs. Caroline Hertel, 79, widow of Joseph Hertel, died last night at the family home, 1039 Main street. She had suffered from a heart ailment for a considerable period of time. Her death came peacefully while she slept.
     Mrs. Hertel was a native of Bloomington, Ill., where she was born October 17, 1858. Her maiden name was Caroline Pfau.
     Most of her life was spent in Watertown. Her husband for years operated a shoe store here, located in the building which now houses the Wickner Boot shop. He died in 1910.
     Surviving her are six daughters and one son, Mrs. Hugh P. Aud, Owensboro, KY; Mrs. J. V. Cusick, Pittsburg, Pa; the Misses Flora, Verena, Eleanor and Isabel Hertel, at home; Carl J. Hertel, Milwaukee. There are two grandchildren.
     Mrs. Hertel was the last member of her immediate family, her two sisters and two brothers having preceded her in death.
          Nephew will Officiate
     She was a member of St. Henry's Catholic church and of the Christian Mother's society of the parish. Her death removes a woman who was by nature kindly and considerate and whose family has long been known and respected in the community.
     The funeral will be held Tuesday from the residence, with services in St. Henry's church at 9 a.m. A solemn requiem high mass will be sung. The Rev. Edward Hertel, Waterford, Wis., a nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Henry's cemetery.
     The Boyle funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the Hertel residence to pay their respects after 4 p.m. Sunday and up to the time of the funeral Tuesday morning.5
