She was born in 1855 at Lomira, Wisconsin, The 1905 Wisconsin census lists Elizabeth as 42, indicating his birthdate would more likely have been 1862 or 1863.2,1,3 She was the daughter of Malachi Riley and Bessie Donnelly.
Elizabeth Riley married John L. Dana, son of Jean Denig and Luise Rößler, on 10 November 1879 at Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.4,5,6
A BRILLIANT hymeneal event was the double wedding Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Bessie Riley on Division street, when the vows were pronounced which made her two accomplished daughters, Mary and Lizzie, brides-the former of Mr. L. W. Safford and the latter of Mr. John L. Dana. The grooms are well-known young businessmen of our city. Rev. Father Keenan performed the nuptial ceremony, which was witnessed by a large number of invited guests. The happy young people were the recipients and start out in life with substantial tokens of the regard entertained for them by a host of friends and the heartiest wishes of all who know them for their future happiness. Mr. and Mrs. Dana left on the midnight train south, to taste the joys of a wedding tour, while Mr. Safford and his bride settled down at once into the cozy quarters where they have been "at home" to friends. THE JOURNAL gives the two blissful pairs its benediction as they start on the well-trodden road of wedded life, and trusts to never have anything but pleasant tidings to record of the two hymeneal partnerships that it takes sincere pleasure in announcing.4
Elizabeth Riley died on 8 May 1918 at Detroit, Michigan.2,1,6
