The following was written by Paula Jüssen, daughter of Edward Jüssen and Theresa Weber Jüssen and dated March 22, 1947. I have added some corrections and explanations in brackets.
Josepha (also called Josephine) Weiss Weber, the daughter of Anton Weiss. was born in Schwinde Wirtinberg [Schwendi, Württemberg] April 3, 1809. We do not know her mother's name. [See above.] Josepha Weiss and Tracy Weiss' grandfather were brother and sister [actually, they were first coursins]. Before her marriage Josepha Weiss and her brother had a bakery. We do not know whether it was this brother (Tracy's grandfather) or not. In those days people brought the bread, etc. to the bakery to be baked, the dough was not made there.
Josepha Weiss made a promise that if she received a certain favor she would make a pilgrimage to the Benedictine shrine in Switzerland, "Maria Einsiedeln", which she made on foot, a distance of one hundred miles.
Benedict [Benedikt] Weber was born in Schwinde Wirtenberg [see above] March 22, 1815, the son of Michael Weber and Agnes [Kramer--original shows tracing of handwritten word] (I can't make out the last name, so am tracing it from Paula' record). [I think Mary Dana Ricklefs did the initial typing of what must have been Paula's handwritten story.] He was granted his master's diploma in the carpenter trade Feb. 24, 1845 and went to Russia because there was not enough work for him in his home town. He left Russia because if he stayed longer he would have to become a Russian citizen and he did not wish to do that. He built a winding stairway in the castle at Schwinde.
Benedict Weber and Josepha Weiss were married in 1845. Mother (Theresa) said she remembered disstinctly that they could see the Alps from Schwinde, also that Count Zippelin [Ferdinand von Zeppelin], who lived at Ulm, not far from Schwinde, was trying to fly then. There was a saying that he would flly and fall into the Danube. [He was born in 1838 and did not build his first Zeppelin until 1900.]
Before coming to America, Benedict Weber made four cedar chests bound with heavy iron bands. Mother said Grandmother packed them so tight that two men had to sit on them so they could be closed. Josepha Weber brought many things to the new land including garden seeds and dishes.
Benedict and Josepha had four children when they left the kingdom of Wirtenberg: Gebhard, Theresa, Ursula and a baby girl, I think her name was Agnes. She was a premature child and the doctor warned grandmother that she would not survive the voyage. She died at sea, her body was wrapped in sail-cloth, the captain said a prayer and the body was lowered into the water. Mother remembered that vividly.
Matilda Weber was born in Theresa, Wis. I am not sure they came to Milwaukee by train. Mother did not say. Mother did say they came to Theresa from Milwaukee by ox team over corduroy roads; during a heavy storm a tree fell on their wagon and broke all the dishes of grandmother's trousseau, except one cup.
The voyage to America was a long, rough one. They traveled second class, which was little better than steerage. Mother said, had her father known that they would have traveled first class. They had to take their food with them and cook it. When their potatoes were half-cooked, someone would come along and take them off the stove. Finally Grandmother traded their potatoes off to an Englishman for hard-tack. They made a dolmetscher [She must mean that they used an interpreter.]
Their first home in the new land was a log cabin [in Theresa] built by Benedict Weber. Soon he built their permanent home which later was occupied by the Gebhard Weber family. Gebhard Weber put an addition onto the home, but I have been old that Camillia and Alexia have removed the addition and it is not as grandfather built it.
Benedict Weber bought the brewery at Theresa of a man by the name of Oberle and continued in the business till his death in 1864; his widow continued the business until 1874 when her son Gebhard took over. She then moved to Ripon and died there July 27th 1885.
Mother said Dr. Salzman (a pioneer priest) used to stop over at their home in Theresa when he was travelling thru the diocese collecting funds for the seminary. She said he was a good collector but had little to eat at times.
Benedikt Weber was naturalized on 29 September 1858 at Circuit Court, Dodge County, Wisconsin; Witnesses were Jacob Bodden and Narcissi W. Juneau.5 He witnessed the baptism of Mary Estelle Lanners on 28 April 1862 at Theresa, Wisconsin; Her other Baptismal Sponsor was Maria Cohl.17

on 24 February 1845 at Wiblingen, District of Danube, Kingdom of Württemberg.8,9,10,11 Marriage banns for Benedikt Weber were published on 26 October 1845 at 24, 25, 26th Sunday after Pentecost 1845 (26 Oct, 2 and 9 Nov), Schwendi, Würrtemburg.
Benedikt Weber married Maria Josefa Weiss, daughter of Anton Leonhard Weiss and Maria Ursula Dettenrieder, on 11 November 1845 at Schwendi, Württemberg. The marriage was witnessed by Reverend Breilinger (?) Schwendi Marriage record gives birth date of 26 March 1808 for Benedikt Weber, this however is incorrect. Should be Benedikt Weber who was born on 22 March 1815. The Benedict Weber who was born 26 March 1808 died on 11 Apr 1808.12,13 He was New Tag Benedict Weber buys the brewery from Benedict Mayer that will ultimately become the G. Weber Brewery from Ulrich Oberly in 1853 at Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin.14 He immigrated on 4 June 1853 to Came to the U.S; settled, Theresa. M; Benedikt Weber immigrated on the Robert Peil departing from Glasgow Scotland. Her captain was Daniel Chadwick. He traveled in the steerage.
He landed in America at the port of New York.15,13,16,5
