Madison-Sister Mary Jane Frances Weber, O.P., 52, dean of Edgewood College since 1950 and a member of the college faculty for 18 years, died Monday, Oct. 2 , at a Madison hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's chapel on the Edgewood campus. A second funeral Mass was held Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Clara's convent, Sinsinawa. Burial was in the the covent cemetery.
Sister Jane Frances was the organizer of the Edgewood College Student Association and of the college Alumni Association. She celebrated her silver jubilee in the Dominican Order last year. She was also a moderator of the National Federation of Catholic College Students.
She was born Feb. 12, 1909 at Plattsmouth, Neb., and attended high school in Chicago. Early in her career she taught at Rosary College, Chicago, and at St. John Cathedral High School, Milwaukee.
She received her bachelor of science and masters degrees from De Paul University, Chicago, where she was dean of women before joining the Dominican Order in 1933. She received her doctor of philosophy degree at the University of Wisconsin in 1943. She did post-doctoral work at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., and several times was a member of the summer session faculty there.
Survivors are her mother, Mrs. Frank Weber, Chicago, and two sisters.2
