Estimable Resident Succumbs in Hospital After Long Illness
George E. Cleary, Marinette city treasurer, passed away in St. Joseph's hospital, Menominee, about 9:30 o'clock Wednesday night, at the age of 57 years. Mr. Cleary, who since the death of his wife, Teckla, on October 12, 1931, had resided with his family at 908 Oddfellow street, had been in failing health for the past three years. Although he was often at his desk attending to his duties when not really fit, he held up until about the middle of November, when his brother, Walter, took him to the Wisconsin General Hospital in Madison for examination.
The deceased was serving his ninth intermittent term as city treasurer, having been elected to that office for the first time in 1911. he had acted in that capacity for nearly 18 years. He was born August 30, 1877, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cleary, well known pioneer residents of this city.
Survivors
Survivors are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. William E. Hughes and Fred Cleary, Kenosha; Mrs. John Doran, this city; Jessie, Eleanor, Florence and Walter at home.
Mr. Cleary was a member of the local branch, Independent Order of Foresters and was an honorary member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Remains were removed to the McLain Funeral Home and late this afternoon will be taken to the family residence in Oddfellow street.
Funeral services will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes church Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. The Very Rev. Dean John McGinley will officiate at the requiem mass. The cortege will leave the home at 8:30 a.m. The casket will be placed in the mausoleum at Forest Home cemetery.
Flags on the public buildings were at half mast today in memory of the departed.
Members of the Daughters of Isabella are requested to assemble at the family home Friday evening at 7:30 o'clock to recite the rosary.2
