George William Dana, 73, of Concord died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002. He was the husband of Peggy Smoot Dana.
He was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Erie, Pa., the son of the late Warner John Dana. He retired from American Sterilizer Company and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Diana Owens of Lynchburg, Linda Dieteman of Erie, Teresa Creasy, Rose Reneau, Rebecca Creasy and Tina Reynolds of Lynchburg and Ronnie Federoff of Erie; one brother, James Richard Dana of North Kingsville, Ohio; two sisters, Eleanor Todd and Ruth Stitzinger of Erie; 11 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Pastor Mike Dodson. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The following obituary appeared in The Daily Reporter, Fond du Lac, on 7 Feb 1911:
Death Calls a Pioneer; John Dana died this morning at his home on North Main Street; Born in Lorraine, France; Had resided in this county for over sixty-four years.
John Dana, a pioneer of the county and one of the most highly respected residents of the city, died at 8:-0 o'clock this morning at the family residence, 355 North Main street, at the age of 59 years. Death was due to a general decline.
Mr. Dana was one of the oldest residents of Fond du Lac, having lived here since 1847. He was born of German parents in Lorraine, France in 1820, leaving there at the age of 6 years, when his family moved to Buffalo, N.Y. He lived in Buffalo and at Cincinnati until he was 27 years old when accompanied by John B. Macy he came to Fond du Lac county.
Settled in Empire.
Upon his arrival in this county Mr. Dana settled on the shore of Lake DeNeveu in the town of Empire and lived there for several years. Later Mr. Dana came to this city and had resided here since that time. His wife died on 30 Oct. 1910.
The surviving relatives are eight children, Mrs. John Schnelder of St. Paul, Minn; George P. Dana, John L. Dana, James T. Dana, William H. Dana, Mrs. John Guepp and Miss Agnes Dana, all of this city, and Miss Mary Dana of New York city.
Funeral Friday Morning.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning from St. Mary's church, Marquette and East Merrill streets with interment at Calvary cemetery. Rev. Godfrey Wueffling will officiate.
Friends are requested to omit flowers.8
