Carl W. Jussen was also known as Carl Max.

Carl W. Jussen was also known as Karl.1

Carl W. Jussen died on 1 February 1897 at Ripon at age 16.2,1

Carl, the son of Mr. Edward Juessen of Ripon died on Monday morning, on Market street, his age being 16 years after suffering a short illness..
On wednesday the funeral will be at St. Patrick church and burial in the parish cemetery in Ripon.

How quick, how young, life blossoms
one never knows the powerful hand!
How soon we go to our heavenly home
called to the better place than the Fatherland

A beautiful gift, even though such a short time on our presence
disappeared from us now at your fresh grave.
your death struck of the world's incurable wounds
and with sorrow we see into your grave

We look after you that eternal life
to which we as peasants of everything goes against
once our sprit of this world becomes sorrowful
These eternal signs to us gives hopes of seeing you again!3

Carl W. Jussen was buried at St. Patrick's cemetery on 3 February 1897 at Ripon.

Karl Jussen's obituary was printed in the Ripon Commonwealth Press on 5 Feb 1897:
Karl Jussen, sixteen years of age and a son of Edward Jussen died suddenly Monday morning. Until the previous Thursday he had been in good health. That day he complained to some of his school-mates that he was feeling poorly and believed he would not return to the afternoon session. That evening he lapsed into unconsciousness, from which he only recovered for short intervals.
The funeral was held on Wednesday morning from St. Patrick's church.

Card of Thanks.-Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jussen and family desire to express their thanks for the many kindnesses shown them during their recent bereavement.

Karl Jussen, who died last Monday and was buried on the following Wednesday from St. Patrick's church, was sixteen years old.
From the beginning of his last illness he seemed to have lost consciousness, from which he never rallied. He was a bright and exceptionally good youth, possessed of a good mind and a kind heart. Rev. W. A. Goebel in a few well chosen remarks casually referring to the frail constitution of the deceased said, on this account he had ever been a particular charge, an especial care to the family, their anxiety for his physical weakness had endeared him the more to them. His loss to them was the more acutely felt. Time might alleviate in part their grief but there would remain a vacant place at the hearth.
It seemed especially appropriate that pall bearers should have been chosen from among his class mates and fellow alter-boys, among whom he was ever a splendid example of kindness and promptness. A classmate, Miss Mary Quast was organist while Mrs. Herzke and Miss Bourgmeyer sang in German. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, attesting the warm place he filled in the hearts of his large circle of friends.4

Carl Jussen's obituary was printed in an unknown German Ripon Paper:
Carl, son of Mr. Edward Jussen in Ripon died on Monday morning of Pneumonia in his sixteenth year after a short illness. The burial took place from St. Patrick's Church in Ripon on Wednesday.5

Jussen Residence Built In 1897
A fine example of early architecture at its best is exemplified in the Jussen residence, 306 East Jackson street. The pioneer builder selected a spacious corner lot for this charming home which was once known in an earlier day as one of the finest homes in this city. Late remodeling of the interior has not displaced this charm; if anything, it has added to it.
This ideal house, rich in its architectural splendor, was the home of the late Edward Jussen. It was built in 1897. The architect, M. C. Radway, became noted in this city and the surrounding region for the many fine homes he designed, one of which was his own home at 503 Watson street and now occupied by the Howe family. The foundation and stonework on both of these houses was built by Gustav Tobolt and his father. Lumber and millwork was furnished by the Morgan Company, Oshkosh.
A family of nine occupied the home of Edward and Theresa Jussen, including Josephine, George, William, Isabella, Paula, Lucy and Marie Jussen. The later two are present occupants.
Edward Jussen and the two sons, George and William, added to the early commercial life of the city in the operation of a meat market, now known as Don's Quality Market. The Jussens were in this business continuously for 73 years, and at one time the lat George L. Graf was a partner in the business.
The pioneer Mr. Jussen came to Ripon in 1865, staying at Wood's hotel which later became the Hotel Englebright and still later the Grand View.6 He lived between 1905 and 1917 in Ripon.7
